Let me ask again, is breakfast the most important meal of the day? You’ve probably heard numerous people inform you that in fact, it is. Well, I am not one to hold one meal as more important than the rest. To me, each meal you consume is equally important. It’s not so much as to if breakfast is the most important meal of the day, the importance lies in what the meal consists of…
There are plenty of diets and fads out here, and a lot of them have differing views on what to do for breakfast. Some inform you that skipping it is ok, in the form of intermittent fasting. Then you have the fads that encourage you to get a lot of protein in your system in the morning. What is the truth? Should you consume a heavy/light breakfast, or no breakfast at all if weight loss is your goal?
The answer is simple. When you break the word breakfast down, you have break fast. Breakfast is when you break your fast from that good night of sleep. Why is that important? Because your body is not designed to process heavy meals during this time as it is waking up. It needs a light boost in the morning, nothing too serious, nor too heavy. The perfect breakfast “meal” is a smoothie. In this smoothie you can put your favorite fruits in there like, berries, melons, bananas, avocados, etc. Some greens like spinach and kale, and if you want to throw some steel cut oats in there that is also fine. I also recommend throwing some hemp, chia, flax, or pumpkin seeds in the smoothie as well along with some water or hemp/oat milk.
